On January 12th, a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 quake struck Haiti - the most powerful one in a century. The death toll has exceeded 150,000 while survivors from the earthquake are over 3 millions. Buildings are collapsed and financial loss is enormous. Because of the lack of water and food, riots are arising and people are living in fear. Herald Cares Disaster Relief Network, a subsidiary of Chinese Christian Herald Crusades (CCHC), immediately responded to the needs of disaster victims by contacting Compassion and Mercy Associate (CAMA) in Dominican Republic, which has numerous experiences in international disaster relief. In collaboration with CAMA, emergency and medical aids are delivered to Haiti. Herald Cares also donated 550 wheelchairs through Free Wheelchair Mission to disaster victims. In the future, donation funds will be used in reconstruction of schools and churches.
Since the earthquake struck Haiti, Herald Cares has mobilized CCHC branch offices all over the world to launch disaster relief effort. Up to now, we have received a donation of over $90,000. We encourage everyone to make a donation to show our love and care for the disaster victims. Please also pray for them in this difficult time.
CCHC has started its disaster relief effort since 2005. The earliest relief effort was to collaborate with TVB to raise funds for SARS outbreak in Hong Kong and tsunami in South East Asia. In 2007, CCHC collaborated with a local Alliance Church in Peru to deliver water and food to earthquake disaster victims. In 2008, CCHC rebuilt 8 bridges after the snow storm in China. Immediately after the Sichuan earthquake struck China, China received its first oversea donation from CCHC. Afterward, through CCHC¡¦s continual fundraising, CCHC used the money for several reconstruction projects in Sichuan. So far, 2 schools were rebuilt and an orphanage was built for children who lost their parents during the quake. In 2009, Taiwan experienced the most severe flood in half a century. Herald Cares Disaster Relief Network immediately collaborated with Ping Tung Hospital in Taiwan to assist flood victims.
